Have you noticed how energized and inspired you feel after you clean out that junk room, your garage or even your office? There is a certain power in knowing what you have, where it is, and knowing you have easy accessibility to it. There is also a certain renewal in purging or eliminating the stuff that no longer serves its purpose. Perhaps making room for something new may be the objective of the elimination.
This is hopefully not a foreign concept of discarding things that no longer work. You might even think it somewhat odd for a person to hold on to things that don’t work any longer; especially if there appears to be no antique or sentimental value associated to that which they are still clinging. In fact there is a television show that exploits extreme cases of this behavior known as hording.
Before you judge those that can’t seem to let go of a good majority of their stuff, look in the mirror and notice what you may be hanging onto that no longer serves you. But rather than looking for the loot and things , notice the much larger pile of stuff known as your thoughts, ideas and beliefs of which you may be so dearly embracing, or dare I say hording.
If you are going without something in your experience whether it is more money, healthier relationships, or more success in your business I would challenge you to consider that you may be hanging on to the thought that is the antithesis of what you desire.
If you truly desire more success in your career and you keep making room in your mind for the thoughts and ideas that support why it’s tough to succeed or get ahead during times like this then guess what you end up with? The evidence to support your thoughts is what shows up. If you seek a better relationship and yet you are a host to the thoughts that your current relationship is a struggle and way too much work and just not worth the effort then guess what you get? That’s right. More of what you got. If you are housing fearful thoughts of what you don’t want to have happen you simply are not making any room for what you do want to show up.
Next time you catch yourself thinking a limiting thought of either blaming someone or shaming yourself for what you don’t have, get rid of it and replace it with a thought that is the direct reflection of what you would rather be experiencing. Let the light cast out the darkness. Make it a habit of thinking the thoughts that are the precursors to what you do want rather than what you don’t.
A simple mechanism you can employ next time you notice a pernicious thought having popped up on the internal screen of your mind is to imagine hitting the ‘Delete’ button on a keyboard and watching the thought vanish. Another useful tool is isolating the negative thought and saying the words – Cancel, Cancel. Now, nature abhors a vacuum. So, you must think the thought with which you wish to replace the old thought.
Your work this week is to limit the thoughts of what you are not wanting to experience and expand the thoughts of what desire to experience. This takes practice and you can do it.
Make it up, make it fun and make it happen!
