There is a reality television contest that provoked me to think about business success and fulfillment in a rather non-conventional way. The show is called The Biggest Loser. In the show, the overweight contestant that loses the most weight throughout the 15 week contest wins. Not only do they win the contest and its prizes, but more importantly, they win a healthier body, perhaps more years to their life, higher self esteem, and more energy. These are just a few of the benefits of losing unhealthy pounds.

In watching a couple episodes, I observed that, not only were they losing physical pounds, they were also shedding their mental and emotional tonnage as well. Then it hit me–when I am working with clients, many of the breakthroughs are not just associated with producing more, winning more or acquiring more to build a successful business. When I am working with clients, we are also losing, releasing and letting go of the things and circumstances that are keeping them from living a more successful and fulfilling life.

Here is a list of commitments for you to consider for winning your business game by being the biggest loser:

  • Commit to losing one bad habit a week.
  • Commit to eliminating one bad behavior a month
  • Commit to limiting negative thoughts, about your business and your personal life, each day
  • Commit to reducing sarcasm and negative comments
  • Commit to re-calibrating preconceived notions and opinions each quarter
  • Commit to letting go of hanging on to the “stories” that keep you from what you want
  • Commit to dropping regrets, judgment and “I should’s” as they occur
  • Commit to excusing yourself from your excuses throughout each day
  • Commit to stop arguing for your limitations before you go there
  • Commit to vanquishing mistaken beliefs that are holding you back as you discover them
  • Commit to stopping the struggle daily
  • Commit to purging or repairing one non functioning item in the home or office each week
  • Commit to forgetting to let fear guide you–hourly

Imagine what your life will be like in a year if you commit to just a couple of these items. It may look like a lot of work and it’s worth it. To help you win your game by committing to lose just remember, “Limit or eliminate to generate”.

Make it up, make it fun and make it happen.
