Successful people in business and in leadership share something in common. They implement four key practices on a regular basis. The bottom line is they do well by doing their BEST.

do you best 3

Everybody has a capacity… or full potential when it comes to running their business in the BEST way possible and serving their clients in the BEST way possible.

On a great day we perform at the very top level of our capacity. On a good day, we are not too far off the mark. And there are some days we prefer to not think about because we were so far away from performing at our full potential.

The mnemonic BEST can remind us of the four key practices of  how we can spend more time at the top.

B is for Brilliant Brave Hearts that Believe in the greater good –  What does that mean?  I believe that people that rise to the top shine their light a bit brighter than the rest, allowing them to attract more of their ideal clients and good business.

They are more brave than the rest; more courageous because they allow themselves to be more vulnerable with their partners, employees and clients. Being vulnerable is not a weakness like many people think. On the contrary, it is one of the bravest ways a person can be. It takes guts to be vulnerable and it creates intimacy. If you look and listen to the word intimacy, it is …in-to-me-you-see.  It works both ways. The more we know of our employees and clients and the more they know of us, the better we can serve them.

“If you are doing your best, you won’t have anytime to worry about failure.”          ~H. Jackson Brown, Jr

E is for Expand Their Edge – Expansion is the natural impulse of the universe. The BEST find their edge and not only do they live there, they continually push the edge.

They can push their edge because they have a clear vision of where they are headed for the sake of their company, employees, clients and hopefully most importantly their family. They don’t settle. They don’t play it safe. They take risks most people are not willing to take. They invest where others are not willing to invest whether it’s of their time, their energy or their money. They perceiver where others have given up.

S is for Step up and Serve – The BEST don’t wait back to be asked. They step forward and do what must be done, when it must be done; not just in their business, but also in their communities.  They don’t waste time trying to please people. However, they do strive to serve people. They help others get, not just what they want, but what they truly need. The BEST know the position they have obtained allows them a broader reach to help and serve more people. They don’t back down from that responsibility.

T is for Trust and Trustworthy – To quote Socrates, “To gain a good reputation, endeavor to be what you desire to appear.” The BEST do exactly that. Through their hard work, sacrifice, commitment to excellence and staying accountable to themselves and others, they’ve developed a reputation of trustworthiness.

Not only are they trustworthy, they trust. They trust themselves to be able to handle whatever may come about. They trust that smart hard work will pay off. They trust always doing the right thing will be rewarded and that it is simply the right thing to do. They trust that if they can’t see the way, the way will be revealed them and this trust allows them to keep moving forward.

“Just do the best you can. No one can do more than that.” ~ John Wooden

Let me leave you with this. Reach as high as you can. Now, while you still have your hand up, reach just a little higher.  What just happened? You had a little bit more ability to reach even higher didn’t you?

We all have the capacity within us to do our BEST, however, the BEST actually DO their BEST by reaching just a little higher every day.

Make it up, make it fun, and you’ll get it done.
